My passion for literacy began with my paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Reece Bridges—a woman whose influence still echoes in everything I do. Though she wasn’t a certified teacher, she served as a teacher assistant to Ms. Senora Springfield at the local schoolhouse in Oxberry, Mississippi.

At a time when education for sharecroppers’ children was often dismissed or deprioritized, my grandmother made it her mission to teach young minds how to read and write. Her quiet strength, commitment to learning, and belief in the power of words laid the foundation for my lifelong dedication to literacy advocacy.
